Hi There!

Welcome to my website.

There's not a ton going on here at the moment, but I aspire to grow the site in the future. Stay tuned!

Some Questions You May or May Not Have

Who are you?

I'm Jasper Cunningham. I recently finished my freshman year at the Honors College of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey (as they prefer to be known). I'm planning on taking a year off and applying to transfer, however, hopefully to a small liberal arts institution where I can study comparative literature. My interests in that area currently revolve around Spanish and Arabic, though I aspire to learn Mandarin as my childhood Saturday school education didn't quite take. Translation of literature is very important to me, and I see it as a personal, creative, and artistic endeavor that does crucial work in terms of cross-cultural understanding and empathy. Outside of these spheres, I have a great love for music (playing and listening to), programming, and hiking.

What is currently on this website?

As I'm typing this, nothing! But hopefully by the time you're reading it, my translation of Romance del rey moro que perdió Valencia will be available. Other translations hopefully soon to come! Perhaps other things! Only time will tell!

Respectfully, why does this site look like it's from the 90s?

Thank you for asking tactfully! In the literal sense, it looks like it's from a few decades ago because I created it using technologies from a few decades ago. Most sites online today use some kind of website building service or pre-made templates, of which I am doing neither. Everything you see corresponds to a keystroke made by my real, living, warm human hand. As for why I chose to do this, 1. it's cheaper (so far my only cost for this site has been the $11 domain name), 2. it's a learning experience (I do enjoy programming, despite the desecration of the field currently taking place at the hands of AI), and 3. I believe that in an era where every website is expected to be slick, loud, and pleasing to the eye, probably with an AI chatbot in the bottom right corner, it's refreshing to have a website that possesses nothing to distract from the content itself.

How can I contact you?

I'm not sure who could be reading this that doesn't already have some way of reaching me, but if you don't, my email address is jasperdylancunningham@gmail.com. Eagle-eyed readers will note it is somewhat reminiscent of the url of this site.
