About
Hi! I’m Jasper, an American college student from New Jersey. In 2026, I completed my freshman year at the Honors College of Rutgers University, but I am now taking a year off from school as I apply to transfer. I’m looking to attend a smaller institution that more closely aligns with my interests in comparative literature.
Translation of literature is very important to me, and I see it as a personal, creative, and artistic endeavor that does crucial work in terms of cross-cultural understanding and empathy. Outside of these spheres, I have a great love for music (playing and listening to), programming, and hiking.
Currently my interests revolve around translation from Spanish into English, and in particular the medieval poetic genre of the romance morisco. I find these poems fascinating as an intersection of cultures, religions, and languages that yields entertaining and enlightening art. In the future, I’m planning on working in Arabic, which I already have a good knowledge of, and Chinese, which I have a fairly poor knowledge of despite my childhood Saturday school education.
I’ve also written a few brief essays on translation and romances moriscos, and some semi-poetic pieces on my time in the UAE and my time in Morocco.
This website is a place for me to collect and make public everything I’m working on in this year that I’m not in school. Currently this is fairly tightly focused around literature and translation, but perhaps the scope will evolve. Only time will tell!
This entire website is written by me, each page coded from scratch in a simple text editor. Additionally, everything you see is (to my knowledge) made without any of use of AI whatsoever for writing, research, editing, translation, programming, design, ideas, etc.
